Pre-Primary & Year 1:
Dinosaur Dig at Avondale
An intrepid group of young palaeontologists descended on Avondale Farm last term in search of the skeleton of a mysterious fossil creature.
They had a wonderful day and were busy digging, talking, co-operating and learning. Teacher Tess Hawke, along with Sally Kilpatrick, Romola Brennan and Sam Gollan, put in a tremendous amount of work to ensure that the site was ‘prepared’ for excavation and that the students would have the opportunity to enjoy a really rich and exciting learning experience.
When these kinds of activities sit alongside a really rigorous and successful early literacy and numeracy program, students have a great opportunity to balance strong academic learning with challenge, adventure and play. The outcomes are fantastic.
The Pre-Primary and Year 1 classes would like to thank Monica at Avondale for all her organisation. The location was perfect, the setup was wonderful, and her thoughtfulness in preparing picnic areas was greatly appreciated. She even provided perfect digging weather. What a great day!
